Stuff and Nonsense

Owls in the making

We had an unexpected delivery of butterfly pupae yesterday afternoon so I was asked to go in and pin them up this morning.
104 pupae in all which is fab.
Walking around our little oasis I can see that we now have the full lifecycle of a butterfly to show our visitors - pupae, adult butterfly, eggs and now caterpillars.
We had at least 3 different types of caterpillars - owls, swallowtails and monarchs which is quite exciting but it is early in the season and I’m not sure how the host plants will fare as they are obviously already being chewed to bits :)

These eggs are on the banana plant so will most likely belong to the Owl butterflies - the largest species of butterfly that we have had in recent years.
