Humantay Glacier and Lake
Today was exhausting! We were picked up by our guide at 4 am to start the 3 hour drive to the trail head. We stopped for some breakfast at a cute place that caters to the hikers about one hour from our destination. There was a landslide on the road so we had to park about a half hour from the trail head and hike a very muddy narrow path to the trail head. We started our trek and I quickly realized that at 14,000 feet climbing is too hard on my lungs. So for the steepest part of the climb I rode a horse up a very narrow and rocky path and then hiked the last bit again. I hiked the path down which was very treacherous due to the path being nothing but rocks. By the time we got back to the car we were beat including our guide. We then started the 3 hour trip home. The part up in the mountains is dirt roads pitted with holes and a very bumpy ride. It’s also one lane with hairpin turns which makes it interesting. The views of the glaciers up there (there are 2) and the lake were worth it. I think? ;) The hike takes about 2 hours each way.
