Jen:s Rose.

Jen's  rose was planted in 1936 by her parents who moved into what was a newly built council flat. When I moved in next door she and her identical twin Anne lived in the flat, her parents having died many years before. We soon became friendly and they tolerated my two cats in spite of them digging holes in their beautiful garden. Years went by.  Anne became ill. I took Jen to and from the hospital but sadly Anne didn't recover. They had always sat together in their garden sun room and I wondered what Jen would do now. Would she continue ?   She did but not alone. My cat GP went over, tapped on the window and  curled up beside her on Anne's chair. Sometimes I went round to join her and from time to time we went out in my car for a drive and afternoon tea. Jen lived until she was ninety. and  since then one or two people have lived in her flat. None of them have been gardeners  and the sun room is long gone but the rose at the gate still remains.
Today I dead headed it. I didn't expect to as yesterday was not a good day.  I had a problem with  my shower at the weekend and on Monday my electrician came to fix it as it was the electrics which were at fault. After he'd gone, I went upstairs, tripped and fell forwards banging my knee replacement hard on the edge of a step. The right side of my face hit the landing. The good news was that my glasses stayed in one piece. and I don't have a black eye, Just tenderness along my cheek bone.  My leg was very sore and I could hardly move yesterday so I went to bed very early. This morning the pain had subsided more than I expected so the birds got fed as usual and Jen's rose got photographed.
