Macro

The new iPhone that I have has a macro lens and I’ve been enjoying close ups, flowers mainly,  although very useful for Vinted.  This humble bramble flower is so pretty with its papery petals against veiny leaves.

Day at home today but lots to do in the garden and I rather lost the morning to visiting my mother and saying goodbye to the current carer and then picking up some food on the way back.

The garden was horribly windy and I only got a fraction done of what was planned.  I hate the wind at any time but most in the summer when the soft growth snaps and breaks and the soil dries out without any warmth to compensate.

In the evening we went to the Living Room at Liphook to see The Phoenician Scheme, the new Wes Anderson.  As I sank, battered by the wind into the comfy seats with a glass of wine I thought I was doomed to snooze through it but actually it was my favourite WA for some time.  Lots of British actors in it but Mia Threapleton, Kate Winslet’s daughter is the standout performance.

I feel I must acknowledge Alan Yentob’s death.  He was the backbone of quality programming at the BBC all the time I was there and I knew him well.  Initially I was in awe of him and had some quite difficult meetings but gradually I got to know him better and to appreciate his warmth and insight.  We had one very good mutual friend who is devastated.
