Albert Bridge

I decided to walk back from my football at Battersea Park today, crossing the Albert Bridge, beautifully floodlit by 4,000 lightbulbs, to take me towards Chelsea barracks and the Army Museum.

I rather like the signs by the old tollbooths saying "All troops must break step when marching over this bridge" - it must have been a bit like the Tate's 'wobbly bridge' at one point, and was amusingly nicknamed "The Trembling Lady".

Sadly the bridge is deteriorating and hopefully will be pedestrianised before it is too late - it was built in 1873, never designed for cars, and can't take their weight.

Though it's not all the fault of selfish motorists this time: another threat is the severe rotting of the timber deck structure caused by the urine of the many dogs using it as a route to the park from which I came!
