Wanderings
We fitted a childcare interval into our journey, while Mum & Dad went to the movies. Walking in the park promotes an afternoon nap (it worked!) Because it was showery, we sought out the parts with greatest tree cover - less familiar to us. I don't think I've ever seen this on any of our many previous visits - in a quiet corner away from any of the obvious walking routes
It is a memorial to 31 British tourists, killed in Ismlamist atrocities in Tunisia ten years ago (there are 31 bands in the waveform). To my shame, I don't even recognise the names of the places where they died: Sousse and Bardo. Many others, from many other countries, were also killed. The objective was to damage the tourist economy and undermine the Tunisian government. In the nihilistic mind-set of murderous religious fundamentalists, it worked. I have no idea why a quiet corner of a Birmingham park was chosen for the memorial, and the explanatory plaque was not forthcoming
Now we are at Stamford Bridge... not that one... and no, not that one either. Actually, the bridge over the river Welland in Stamford, Lincolnshire. We are sleeping in the old toll house, beside the bridge. I have never been to Stamford. From what I have read, it is a town left behind by history, which means there is a lot of history left behind. Tomorrow we may find out
