Cider Barn
“It was a world that I wanted to record because it was such a miracle visitation to me.”
Laurie Lee
A visit to an old friend, the Herefordshire cider barn which has been undergoing renovation since late last summer. All finished now so time to wrap up the photography. E was busy when I arrived so a quick hello and drop my bags before heading off to the barn to get stuck in to the photography. As a listed building it was subject to regulations and restrictions to ensure the renovation was sympathetic and retained its character on completion. A few hours later I’d finished, attempting to produce some photos that recorded not only the building work that had been carried out but also the story of the building and its’ character, personified in split timber trusses, lath and lime plaster panels and steel plate reinforcement. True to its origins, the space is being prepared to store cider, although it’s now very much a twenty-first century process in a nineteenth century barn. Spent the evening chatting over dinner into the dark hours, plenty of interesting stories of strange, interesting and unusual characters who’ve visited over the last few months – wonder which category I fall into?
