Poly What?

A spotted sandpiper eyed me warily from the wetland. Bobbing its tail as it went, pecking at the ground here and there. What for, I'm not sure.

I have never seen a pair, although by all accounts, they are solitary birds. Unusually, males are the homemakers and females can be polyandry.
