La Casa de Guayasamin

Oswaldo Guayasamin is an Ecuadorean artist who died in 1999. He was a prolific artist, producing hundreds (possibly thousands) of paintings including many of Quito in various colours depending on his mood. Lots of very emotive pictures of mothers and children, following his travels around South America, portraying the poverty he witnessed. Within the grounds of his house there is a chapel where they are displayed - it's an amazing building (modern) which certainly delivers Guayasamins's message.

His house however is something else, very big (he built it so that it could be a museum once he died) absolutely beautiful and full of paintings (including a Picasso !), pieces of sculpture, furniture that he designed and made, plus lots of oher items that he collected in his life. Loved it :-)
