Ox-eye Daisies

This morning,  we visited our local wildlife area, for the first time since our holiday. As we expected, the wildflower meadow is looking lovely, with this swathe of Ox -eye daisies bobbing about in  the wind. For the past few years, the  meadow has looked good in early summer. However, it took about ten years to reduce the fertility of the soil sufficiently to get a wide variety of wildflowers to flourish, despite sowing Yellow Rattle which weakens the the coarser grasses, and removing arisings when we mow /scythe the area. There's  still one third of the patch where there's not much Yellow Rattle  and  rather too much Hogweed and Cow Parsley. In hindsight, we should have removed a lot more of the top soil( and therefore reduced the  soil fertility) before trying to create the wildflower meadow. Never mind it's been interesting to watch its development with our minimal interventions.
The two Mirabelle plum trees have plenty of small fruit developing, and I expect the birds and  squirrels will make short work of them as they ripen.
