Nature Diary. Hungry Magpies

Another beautiful day with sunshine and blue sky all day, but as yet no rain. So it was out with the hose to revive the poor gasping, thirsty plants.
Today a bowl of crumbs of all sorts was used as food for the birds and was regularly topped up as the quantity was steadily demolished by the regular visitors. Throughout the whole day the nearby Magpie families were the delighted recipients of the whole lot, from breakfast to tea time!!
Youngsters and parents kept arriving all day, the youngsters now being almost as big as the parents! The hungry arrivals always found the food topped up, and some water available.
The food was always in the same places so they were able to nip in and out quickly, which they did all day.
The pictures today are of two of the Magpies nipping in for some of the food on the balcony. These two look very much like a parent and a sturdy youngster.
It's been a pleasure to feed them all, and to watch them in the peace of this mportant Sunday.
