A native of New Zealand
We have had some rain, but not as much as expected. Rain or not, I’ve taken the opportunity to catch up with the usual - photos and writing generally. Our last u3a Creative Writing Group meeting is on Tuesday and I had nothing written. I decided to write a piece about the cave at Doolin, its discovery, opening to the public and my descent. Not as imaginative as I would have liked to write, but I’ll have the summer to think about new subjects for the next season.
Several sunny spells when I thought I might go outside, but they didn’t last. After lunch I decided to go for a walk around the block, calling in to see a neighbour who’s not been well first and carrying on from there. While we were talking it began to rain, so I did a quick circuit and back to the house when the sun came back out! I did a bit of greenhouse work for a while, pricking off some ferns which I’d sown back in July 2023 - Blechnum cycadifolium, or Lomariocycas cycadifolia as they’re now to be called.
Missed the chance for a Blip on my walk, so here’s one of the plants growing on the edge of my drive bed - Parahebe catarractae ‘Avalanche’, the white form of a native of New Zealand and an easy plant to grow.
Mid-afternoon the sun was shining from a clear blue sky, so I took a book and a cuppa outside and managed to read three pages and drink half the cup before the sun went it - it’s fairly breezy too.
Now the sky is cloudless, so I'll go out and read another couple of pages!
