Solemn duty visit

At Ration Farm CWGC cemetery outside La Chapelle D’Armentières to pay respects to Great Uncle Jesse Harding. I think we’re the only family members to have ever visited, we always leave a pebble each on his headstone. Important work the War Graves Commission still does, all beautifully tended. It would have been really hard for working class families to have travelled to their immediate relatives graves after the war, and then there was the Great Depression and then the next war. It’s fallen to our generation to mark in person.

And our generation needs to step up and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
