Dave a fellow blipper this evening kindly showed me this technique to calibrate my lenses to my camera body. An enlightening lesson that resulted in me dialing in +6 micro adjustments on my 300mm prime and -5 when coupled to my 1.4 converter . A close look in large should show how the scale on the tape runs in and out of focus, with the bottom of the box being the autofocus point.

nerdy or not I now know for sure that out of focus shots are definitely the fault of the clown behind the camera and not the kit.
