Esplanade Church, Oban

The roots of the Christian Church in Oban go back to the time when Christianity first arrived on these shores. There is a wealth of archaelogical evidence to support this, some of which I’ve blipped before. But today’s blip is the most modern church in the area, the Church of Scotland Esplanade Church or Christ Church to give it it’s proper name. It was built in 1957 by architect Leslie Graham-MacDougall. Seems quite apt that it appears forward looking in its approach to worship, with a Sundown service once a week on a Wednesday, and a nice little sensory garden in the front. It looks rather Mediterranean to me, with its white paint peeling and in need of a little TLC. It’s a sign of the times that every time I’ve tried to see the inside of this church, it’s been locked. But then, I haven’t tried at service times …..

Weather dull and very misty all day, wet in the air when not raining. It's as if there are no islands in the bay after Maiden Isle, visibility so bad.
