Living my dream

Bacon butty

It was a real treat to start the day with a bacon butty. I've not indulged in one for months.

The bacon was  from a friend who had a pig slaughtered recently. The bread was from yesterday's sourdough, and home made tomato ketchup topped it off.

Thus fortified I went up the hill to spend the morning in G's garden. (I may be having a gardening holiday at home, but I can't afford to take a break from G's and K's gardens).

We dug up and divided most of her strawberry plants. We had planted 15 or 20 strawberries this time last year along the edges of some of the raised veg beds. They have done so well that once the runners were cut off and the main plants were divided we had a bucket containing more than 100 plants.

We planted 60 in a newly-created bed and I brought the rest home. After a few phone calls I had found new homes for all but the eight which I have potted up for myself, to add to my existing supply. There will be a lot more strawberries Chez M&B next year. I don't mind. Nor will Bean.

Brother #3 would have been 70 today. I raised a cup of tea to him this afternoon. It is almost exactly 18 months since he died. He would have loved the bacon butty...
