A common grackle looked at me quizzically with his beady eye. Much smaller than a crow, but equally menacing with its pointy beak.

Dark coloured birds are difficult to photograph because it's hard to show their detail. At least the grackle has an iridescent blue colour to its head and neck, unlike the black birds which are jet black.
