Red Rose
This morning I said goodbye to Brian when he went to work, and laid in bed for what felt like a couple of minutes. But when I looked at the time, I was shocked to see that it was 9. 30!
There was plenty to do today so I got straight on with things after breakfast. Before I did anything I had a walk round the Arboretum and took a few photos on my phone. This flower is one of them. The leaves are coated with sap!
One thing I needed to do was write the eulogy for my Mum to get it sent to the vicar before he goes on holiday. It was not easy and I wrote several versions which I edited into one. Hopefully it will be ok.
A little later I had another walk in the park and took my camera as I'd seen things on my first visit that would be better taken on it rather than on my phone. When I got there though, I saw some unusual very young chicks near the pond. One had a problem with its legs and couldn't stand properly, but the other two seemed fine if a little bewildered. There were no adult birds with them that I could see. They hadn't been there in the morning and I've no idea how they came to be in the park as they couldn't fly. Everyone was taking an interest. I will include an extra of them and try to identify them.
Brian thinks they are malformed mallards. Google thinks they are Indian running ducks. They look the right shape, but Indian running ducks do not live wild in UK and are flightless. These birds also cannot fly but that may be because they seem young. They are a mystery.
I tried to call a rescue centre for them as I'm sure they need help, but the nearest I could find that take birds was miles away and they didn't answer their phone.
My dodgy cousin got in touch about going to the funeral. He couldn't help himself but start trying to change our arrangements, which I did not bow to.
We've done the weekly shop too, and I'm ready for a rest now.
