Meanderings

Maybe the end of an era

This is an older photo of one of my piano students hard at work - I've permission to use this one which was a reject for the original reason for the pictures,  but tonight confirmed I may very well not be doing any piano teaching next year!

I'd decided a couple of years ago that, once the current pupils finished, I wasn't going to take on any more whilst I'm involved in my current main job role, which is more mentally demanding than the role I had when I decided to supplement my income with some instrumental teaching, and whilst I do more church based admin beyond the remit of the organist.

The older one is off to university, all being well, in September, but the younger one may also be off to do post 16 education in a residential setting. I'm still patiently waiting to hear the final decision but I know what the offer is.

There have not been many years over my working life where I've not taught at least one or two people one or other of my instruments. I've not often gone beyond Grade 5 work, mostly because until I settled here, my life meant a lot of moving around. These two have been the exception. Whilst I've taught them piano, we've done a few grades but not all, and they would say I've certainly given them strong foundations of musical skills, they've done so much with other instruments as well. (One baritone, the other violin.)They are both keen to carry on with music in some form or other regardless and I've already been informed (!!) they want piano lessons in their holidays.

We wait and see...
