Back to home country
Today I had a workday in the event, where the remains of 26 new Finnish soldiers were buried at the Lappeenranta Heroes' Cemetery after more than 80 years. Approximately 13,000 soldiers remained on the Russian side of the battlefield or went missing during the Winter and Continuation Wars of 1939–1944. The remains of approximately 1,700 of them have been brought to Finland so far.
It has been possible to maintain the search and identification work for the war dead in accordance with the state treaty between Finland and Russia to a limited extent on both sides of the border, but the current international situation has made it considerably more difficult.
In the extra section two more photos of the event.
