Wednesday: The Elephant On The Stairs

Following on from our fun evening on Saturday, we were invited to a barbecue this evening at Denis' studio, about 40km outside of Zagreb.  Denis is a sculptor and has a studio in an amazing building which houses a collective of artists.  

It was a great evening - they had invited about 15 or so friends over, most of whom were also artists, but in the mix there was also a poet/playwright and a professor of Ancient Greek and Latin.  As you can imagine, it was a thoroughly entertaining evening.  We were made to feel incredibly welcome by everyone.  

This canvas is one of Denis' pieces and is currently leaning at the top of the stairs while he decides what to do with it.  In a wonderful piece of serendipity, a copy of this painting covers one wall in our favourite bar so we saw the picture before we ever met the artist.

And I didn't let the fact that I had a wisdom tooth taken out this afternoon ruin my evening.  It was nothing that a constant supply of ibuprofen couldn't sort.
