Zip!
Sewists* out there might wonder why I'm blipping this but for me it was quite a momentous occasion.
I made a few clothes for my children when they were little, but for the last 30 or so years my machine has only come out for the odd bit of mending.
Anyway I have this pair of black pants (probably 15 years old) which are very useful for casual evening wear. I keep them in Sydney and wear them just about every time we go out to a show.
The zipper failed last week and rather than throw them out or try to find someone to replace it, I decided to have a go myself. I read the instruction book and watched a couple of YouTube videos and am quite satisfied with the result.
All for the cost of $1.60 for the zipper. I didn't know you could buy anything for so little these days.
I initially wrote "sewer" but it didn't look quite right and its definition is "an underground conduit for carrying off drainage water and waste matter". Apparently sewer can also be used for one who sews but so as not to offend anyone, and to display my increased vocabulary, I've opted for "sewist". It is touted as having the added advantage of being gender neutral (compared to "seamstress" or "tailor") :-)
