New Born
I was driving back from an early evening photo trip to Watendlath Tarn when my route home was blocked by this new born calf and Mum. I reckon I missed the birth by about 2 minutes as the calf was very wobbly on its feet and coming to terms with its new surroundings. I can imagine lying on a gravel lay-by is not the best way to start your life.
Mum was very attentive, licking her newborn clean and encouraging it to feed. I sat in the car watching, but the mum was not bothered by me or a cyclist who approached from the other direction. Eventually two locals who knew of this cow arrived on a quad bike . As I crept past they told me that she had given birth early but both seemed to be okay which was a relief.
Image quality is not great as I was shooting into direct sunlight on my phone.
