Ramsons ( Allium ursinum )
An early start. I had an appointment at the doctors at 8:30 for my annual "12,000 mile service" (by which I mean health check). It would seem I am still alive! No problems detected unless the bloods turn up something unexpected.
Before they go over I thought I had better blip a wild garlic flower. They must have arrived in the garden as seeds in one of our periodic floods. They have settled nice in Clickychick's "woodland garden" giving it a very real feel of being a woodland.
Another name for wild garlic is Bear garlic, as the scientific name suggests. Presumably bears when they roamed this country enjoyed Ramsons. The woodland trust says it is a sign of ancient woodland. I find this doubtful as our "woodland garden " isn't of any great age.
