This is the day

By wrencottage

There's no place like home!

Somewhere in the thickness of the canopy of green
A robin sings his anthem, clearly heard but never seen.
Dappled sunlight flickers lacy patterns on the lawn
While I breathe deeply, smile, and bless the day that I was born.

Rosebuds are unfurling, and the pretty Queen Anne’s lace
Self-seeded, welcome visitor, now shows its starry face.
The ageing garden bench, entwined with pink geranium flowers,
Creates a friendly place to sit and gaze in peace for hours.

The perfect day for washing dried, thanks to the gentle breeze,
Companionship with Smithers, and al fresco meals and teas,
It’s no surprise that we are not the kind of folk to roam –
Our holiday was lovely, but – there’s just no place like home!
