Spoonbill
In South Ronaldsay I was walking on the cliffs when I saw on my phone that a spoonbill was on Liddel Loch a couple of miles away. I started to walk over and a local man stopped and gave me a lift to just east of the loch. The bird was still quite far, but I didn't want to disturb it. I hadn't seen one before, though they aren't very rare now in the South of England (but I don't go that far south). A couple of pairs have been in Orkney once or twice, but I followed requests to keep away in the hope that they would breed, which they didn't. A couple of ladies walking were happy to give the bird a berth- being from Norfolk, they were quite familiar with the species. Extra of Arctic terns.
