Living my dream

That's more like it

The rain disappeared yesterday evening and we have had a blue day, with a chilly wind. Everything is sopping wet outside, so I decided to focus on indoors jobs.

The Orkney cheese came out of the press first thing and is now air-drying on a shelf. This freed up some space to make Camemberts.

Having a tiny kitchen in a truck is a juggling act. There is no multi-tasking here: I have to see one task through from start to finish to make room for the next one. I have become expert at careful timing to get everything done.

So once the Camemberts were draining in the moulds I moved them up to a shelf and was able to start making pastry and to mix the filling for a savoury squash pie.

As soon as that was in the oven I got on with peeling and slicing apples for another pie.

And once that was cooking I found the last of the big Monty's Surprise apples which I prepared for baking (stuffed with raw sugar, butter and sultanas).

I did spend a bit of time in the warmth of the tunnel, potting up strawberry runners. And then I sat on a stool in the garage (also out of the cold wind) while I trimmed the now dry garlic bulbs and onions, before putting them into nets to hang from nails in the rafters, where they are easily accessible through winter when I need them.

Beanio and I had a brisk walk to Paradise Gully Road, where I took the Blip. The Beandog was much brisker than me, especially when she put up a hare. Her energy levels are good at the moment: she chased it out of sight and then galloped back to me three or four minutes later, happily panting and wagging. It is a joy to see. Her heart meds are magical.

I got my hair cut on Wednesday and it is a real rats' nest. It looked okay when I left the salon, but since washing it yesterday it has settled in all the wrong directions. I have never had such a tatty head.

Normally it wouldn't bother me, but it really is terrible! I will need to go to a different salon next week and ask for it to be sorted out. I will end up with a much shorter cut than I ideally like in winter, but at least I'll be able to go around without a hat covering it up all the time.
