Woodlawn Plantation

George Washington gifted Woodlawn Plantation and 2,000 acres of his Mount Vernon estate to his nephew and step-granddaughter. The Architect of the Capitol designed the house. 
I rode along with my husband today while he checked on some jobs at Fort Belvoir. As we approached the gate, I noticed the entrance to Woodlawn Plantation. The fence around the fort borders the plantation. It has been many decades since I last visited, and I had forgotten how stately the home is.
