Juneau ...
... Alaska.
Today was a much ... so much ... better day than yesterday!
We sailed into the port of Juneau, Alaska shortly after lunch today with a nice long time in port ... departure was 10:30 pm.
We had arranged to do a Jeep excursion so as soon as we were able we disembarked and headed to the Jeep Adventures location. We collected our bright red Jeep and we were on our own for several hours. That's one of the reasons we chose this excursion ... it was a self driving tour. The tour company supplies the Jeep, a full tank of gas and maps on an iPad for you to follow. Have to admit ... we strayed from those maps a little bit!
But we had a wonderful day ... despite the on and off rainy weather. I took too many pictures to feature just one ... so a collage was in order. The first place we stopped at was The Shrine of St. Thérèse where we saw the cutest little rodents called marmots ... pictured in the bottom right. We also saw the beautiful Stellar Jay pictured in the bottom left.
Our last stop before returning the Jeep was to Mendenhall Glacier ... seen in upper right. But there were lots of sights in between! Including seeing lots of bald eagles flying high above us ... too high for any decent shots.
After returning the Jeep we boarded the ship to have a late dinner before once again returning to Juneau for some tourist trap shopping! But we were back on board long before the 10:00 pm deadline.
Tomorrow is a cruise day up Endicott Arm ... stay tuned.
