Three Plants

I drove past the big Catholic church on my way to class today, and there was quite a crowd standing out in front. I assume they were waiting to see if they had a new Pope. 108 of the Cardinals were chosen by Francis and come from all over so they probably don't know each other very well. It may take awhile. Thousands are also waiting by the Vatican, eyes and cameras glued to the old fashioned stove chimney the smoke from which will announce the results of the balloting. It's quite a spectacle, entirely out of the public view, yet they wait patiently.

After class I went yet again to Rite Aid to pick up a prescription. Because the refill date is based on when the original prescription was written and they weren't all written at once it has become something of a regular journey. Judging from the increasing emptiness of the store shelves and the absence of people, I wasn't surprised to read in the paper over my lunch that Rite Aid has declared bankruptcy and is looking for a buyer of all our prescriptions along with all their stores. I'm sure many stores will probably close.

We will be picking leaves out of our garden for weeks. John and I have a difference of opinion on just how many leaves need to be picked up and where, so while he laid down on the steps and picked leaves out of the lantana that might not be long for this world, I pulled weeds and got rid of a rogue vine that was threatening to climb through the window. We had a front door visit from Henrietta, the turkey who left her calling cards all over the front porch, and then proceeded around the front of the house to the fire garden gate. We still haven't come up with a name for our bluebird, but she's pretty messy too. What is it about the inside of our house that these birds find so fascinating?

The three plants live on our bedroom bookcase. One of them isn't real, meaning it isn't alive. Can you guess which one it is?
