Shetland Bus Operations Flotilla
A beautiful calm and sunny morning, warm too. A breeze briefly picked up, but calmed again. Clouded over this evening, much cooler too.
A day working on my own again, I was on litter bins and dog poo bins around Lerwick and Scalloway. Town was busy, three cruise ships in visiting, perfect day for them. Some time in the garden after work. Me, peerie Brian and Sammy headed to Oxna with the boat this evening. Wilbert and Christine (Fullerton) are out staying while it's lambing season for them, and wanted us to visit. Feet up before bed.
Tomorrow marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day. To mark the occasion, a flotilla of Norwegian vessels arrived yesterday afternoon. Some of the boats were part of the Shetland Bus Operations, their first time crossing the North Sea to Shetland since WWII. Crossing over sea also mirrors what the vessels did during the war, which saw resistance fighters, agents and refugees transported between the two. Also visiting is the SS Hestmanden, a floating museum. Locals and cruise passengers mobbed the ships today, hopefully I'll get a chance to get on board to have a look around them. Looking to berthed flotilla, Lerwick Harbour.
