Eggs in eggcups…

Here are my three of my eggcups each with an egg of a different variety. So I think this fits the challenge of three/trio.

On Wednesday morning we have coffee, cakes and chat at the Town Church which is normally a great meet up but last weeks ended in chaos! Firstly a visitor joined us. He told us that when in the RAF he was attached to 201 Squadron The 201 Squadron was the oldest in the RAF and was the last to retain a local affiliation. Until it was disbanded in 2011, it carried the soubriquet 'Guernsey's Own'.its flag flies in the Town Church so he popped in the have a look and joined us. Unfortunately the poor man has had throat cancel for 30 years so can only whisper. Not a problem when he was talking one to one. Then one of the regulars, Peter came in. Apparently he has had problems with his ears for the last couple of days and was as deaf as a post. He had an appointment to have his ears syringed the following day but meanwhile we had to shout. Peter used to be in the RAF so was keen to speak to the visitor but someone whispering to Peter wasn’t going to work. Penny. The rector passed he diary to them, open at a couple of blank pages and they had to write notes to each other. I wonder what Penny’s husband would think she was up to if he saw her diary;-)

So today’s saying of the day is deaf as a post and its biblical connection is appropriate since the Town Church inspired me.

The first simile has its origin in John Palsgrave's Acolastus (1540): “How deaf an ear I intended to give him ... he were as good to tell his tale to a post.” It has largely replaced deaf as an adder , alluding to an ancient belief that adders cannot hear; it is recorded in the Bible (Psalms 58:3–5).
