Callendar House, Falkirk

Spent an afternoon at Callendar Park in Falkirk. At the centre of the park is Callendar House a fine mansion house built in the style of a French Chateau. There has been a house on this site for hundreds of years owned by several families. It is now administered by Falkirk Community Trust and has been developed over the years as a major centre for the culture and heritage of the Falkirk area. There is a very good exhibition tracing the history of Falkirk and one or two rooms have been restored to their original grandeur.
The exterior of the building is I think grand in places, particularly the turrets as seen here and the fabulous stone staircase, although other parts have been less sympathetically restored.
The park itself is a great facility , well used by the people of Falkirk and popular too with tourists.
