All mouth
The chicks are now 9 days old, there are definitely 8 of them (could be 9) and there is one unhatched egg that can sometimes be seen. Already most of them are covered in feathers and today at least one of them opened their eyes.
I have observed that, after feeding, the chicks sometimes turn upside down and produce a white poo that is carried off by a parent. I've now learned that this is called a 'fecal sac' (poo encased in a tough mucous membrane) and the parent carries it away from the nest.
I continue to find it fascinating so forgive my obsession. In only another 9 days they could all be gone!.
