Comma butterfly

Rambling around Howe Ridding Wood today I was lucky enough to have some decent sunshine while doing my weekly butterfly transect.
I was delighted to find that butterfly numbers are increasing still after the heat wave last month.
The autumn flight of comma butterflies is beginning and this one was feeding happily on hard head thistle, there are several good patches here.
