Busy Day! - Ortigia, Sicily

Breakfast in the same lovely Cafe round the corner of good coffee and fresh pastries, stuffed with pistachio!

Went a walk down by the harbourside and decided to take a boat trip round the island and to the caves. The boat left at 11, so we had a wander first. It was quite windy today so I asked the girl on the stand if the water would be calm, ‘like a table’ she said!

We came back an hour later and it was only us and three other people on the motor boat. It was a good trip but once we got out of the Bay Area the water was not like a table , it was choppy, but it was exciting and the Captain was so good riding the waves and expertly negotiating into the caves and reversing out.

He pointed out some interesting facts on the coastline as we sped along. The whole trip was around an hour. Really enjoyed it.

All that fresh air made us hungry and it was actually lunchtime so we went back to the same restaurant as yesterday as we liked it so much and got a table practically right away and also sitting outside again. Another very good meal. We’ve never had a bad meal this holiday. And of course another tiramisu as they are just so good.

S wanted to go to the Neopolis Archaeological Park in Syracuse which we saw was a 35 min walk away so decided to walk there instead of taking the bus . We marched on and arrived and got the ticket which I thought was steep at €17 but it was his choice not mine! It was a huge site with pathways and impressive caves and modern artwork in places. The amphitheater was getting reading for a production so had scaffolding g in bits. The further on amphitheatre was more authentic. All in all it was ok but not worth the steep entry price.

We got the bus back into the marina and walked the short way to our apartment. Had a cuppa and got ready for going out . We walked down to the harbour as there was a big ship in. It was a SAGA tour ship.

We went for a gelato and sat in to eat it. Had to be pistachio and it was so good.

Home bed and moving on today tomorrow but will pack in the morning.
