June
The final day of our family holiday took us to Wirksworth in Derbyshire to meet up with Julian's aunt June, her son Mark, and his son Samuel. We hadn't seen June and Mark since Julian's mum's funeral and the last, and only time we met Sam, he was a toddler and covered in chocolate. We weren't sure how it would go, particularly because June lost her husband recently and her mind is starting to go, but it made it even more important to see her.
We met at the Malt Shovel, very close to June's for a late lunch, and it went pretty well. Mark could talk the hind legs off a donkey and has a great sense of humour and Sam is a lovely lad. June is now quite frail and didn't take part in the conversation - I don't think she hear it - but recognised us and seemed pleased to see us. I am certainly glad we managed to see her.
Then Mark drove Lucie to Derby for her train to London and we drove back.
We had a bit of a hiccup on the way, when the car lost power and stopped on the M74. It wouldn't re-start and there was a sign saying "system failure" on the dashboard. However, by the time I had called roadside assistance, given all the info and got told that it would take about 4 hours to get someone to us, the car started again and we got home without any further issue.
