Cwm Pennant
I’ve been wanting to go to Cwm Pennant to see the bluebells. Last year we were there on May 20th and they were in full bloom, but this year everything seems to have been earlier so I was afraid we might miss them at their best.
After the glorious weather of the last week, this morning cloud replaces sunshine and there’s a distinct chill to the air, but by the time we reach the end of this long and beautiful valley, there are small patches of blue sky. The clouds continue to break up, allowing increasing patches of sunlight to paint the wild hills, highlighting shades of green, gold, bronze and grey. This is a land of legend and abandoned farms - though some agriculture still exists and distant old dwellings have been turned into holiday homes or lets.
Careful observation reveals the tiny heads of emerging bluebells, but the carpets that will come are at least a week away. Even without these mists of blue, the land has a magical, majestic beauty of its own. We will return ….
