Gaia's Child

Just a Baby...

We've had a bit of rain the last few days, thank goodness! The rain retention areas have water in them so the Southern toads and other amphibians' mating and egg laying instincts have kicked into high gear. Hundreds, no...thousands of tiny (this one is less than one half inch long) Southern toads are making the dangerous journey from their birthplace to where ever it is that they'll spend their lives. This requires them to cross streets and navigate steep curbs. Many don't make it, of course, but enough do to insure the next generation of insect eaters. The following will give you a good idea of what Southern Toads sound like during mating season:  Male Southern Toads serenading potential mates. Enjoy!  m
p.s. I looked for the cutest one that I could find to share with you!
