Roaring Meg
This section of river in the Kawarau Goerge is Called Roaring Meg. As the story goes, back in the early mining days, two young miners asked two barmaids out for a picnic. when arriving at this section of river they had to cross and being gentlemen, they carried the ladies across to avoid them getting wet. One of the ladies named Meg became quite loud and unsettled during the crossing. Hence the miners named this section Roaring Meg. Further upstream they had to cross another stream and again carried the ladies across. Meg continued to roar etc. but the other lady remained quiet and very settled, comfortable with the situation. So the miners called this stream Gental Annie.
