Lewis and Clark Expedition

(Posting a day late ) Among other things! I’ve mentioned my friend Dick - he lives on the northern Oregon Coast. Yesterday I headed out to see him - just an hour and 20 minutes drive (through lovely country). We played 9 holes of golf at The Highlands, very sweet course and very playable. It was a murky afternoon, with some mist blowing in off of the ocean. There was a pretty good drizzle by the time we finished our game. So we headed over to McMenamin’s Gearhart Hotel, which manages the Gearhart Golf Links, which I posted about a week or so ago. They have a lovely small pub called the Sand Trap Pub, cozy, decent food, and specializing in whiskey https://www.mcmenamins.com/gearhart-hotel/sand-trap-pub. We had a very pleasant dinner there.

Before we went to the Pub, we took a tour around the city of Seaside, just north of Gearhart. Interestingly enough, this tourist mecca of the northern Oregon Coast is the end of the Oregon Trail- where the Lewis and Clark Expedition “turned around” quite literally (when they met the Pacific Ocean) and headed home. A statue has been erected in their honor. More information here if you’re interested:
