Silly Saturday at the Farmers' Market
Dogs are not allowed within 20 feet of food at the farmers' market but people do find some pretty creative ways to circumvent the rule, usually by claiming that they are 'therapy dogs'. Oddly enough, it wasn't this woman's dog that caught my eye, but her shoes! I told her I liked them and she told me all about them. They are only sold online and I have just ordered a pair, something I rarely do with shoes. These come in a rainbow of colors and if they fit and are as comfortable as she says, I can see myself ordering several more colors. She also told me which colors she had.
We went to two farmers' markets today. The second one was in Healdsburg and it is smaller but nicely laid out and with beautifully displayed produce. We bought a beautiful selection of mushrooms including oysters, shitakis and lion's mane. We also got some beautiful lettuce, fava beans, cauliflower and peaches and strawberries. No extra charge for the wildlife in the lettuce which is clearly organically grown.
More hand made pasta and fresh thyme for the mushrooms and some really beautiful antique colored roses.
Dana has helped get our mound garden shaped up and is going to come back on Monday to start on the fire garden outside our bedroom. It is looking a bit neglected. Pedro and his guys are supposed to come sometime an do some of the heavy lifting and digging but we never know quite when they will be here. Usually it doesn't matter, but their remit has changed a bit since we talked with Pedro so we want to be here to talk to them when they come. The weather has been much better than we were led to expect today.
With the actual Conclave coming up on the 7th, we decided to watch Conclave. It was quite fascinating with beautiful photography, wonderful symbolism, excellent acting and a somewhat improbable ending. I thought there were quite a few subtle comments on the church's attitude toward women in a movie that only had two women in it. And this is quite beside the point, but I couldn't help wondering why one of the cardinals had purple robes....
