Kelvin, Kelvin, Kelvin...grove!

I had to go across to Glasgow today to collect a pair of motorbike trousers, and so with Mum and Dad we decided to make a day of it. While I tried things on in the shop they found a place to park in a nearby street, and I had a nice little walk from the shop.

From there we drove to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum for an early lunch. I had a lovely wrap and salad, and an almost-as-good-as-Keswick decaf latte. That neatly brought us to 1pm for the organ recital, with Aaron Hawthorne, who looks a bit like the late and much missed Carlo Curley. Hawthorne played half a dozen Scottish pieces including Caledonia and Farewell to Stromness. We took a wander around the gallery, and I enjoyed seeing paintings by Turner and Constable, and a portrait of Anna Pavlova by John Lavery. I also enjoyed seeing various exhibits in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh style, including stained glass. The car on display was an Anderson trials and hill climb special from the 1930s I think, with two engines and four wheel drive.

Once we were all museumed out we drove east out of town, following the route of the old A8, through Newhouse and Salsburgh and Kirk of Shotts, later diverting to West Calder to take a walk around the base of The Five Sisters, an impressively huge shale bing that is really five adjoining heaps, and is a famous landmark. I photographed some orange tip butterflies while we wandered through the trees.

From there, it was back to Flum HQ for take away leftovers and some Rick Wakeman for the fun of it. :-)
