Castaways . . .
. . . at least, the kids can pretend they are. This genuine wreck was installed at one end of Boathaven Beach so they could let their imaginations run riot - and to afford their mums and dads a bit of shade. The beach, sloping gently down into the turquoise sea, is part of the new Port of Airlie tourism development. Two years or so ago it wasn't there. Then 60,000 cubic metres of white sand were brought in from Ten Mile Creek in North Queensland. It's a good place to be.
