Bird Cherry (Prunus padus)

A wild tree common here in the North of England with these abundant spires of white blossom and a sweet almondy scent, mixing with the coconut of gorse, where the forest turns to heathland.
Its common names range to opposite ends of the descriptive spectrum. If you think its flowers beautiful  you can call it the  'Mayday Tree' or if you focus on its black stringent and slightly toxic cherries it is a 'Hagberry'.  'Bird cherry' is middle of the road.
