That Will Do!

Tornado

Off train spotting again with Miss Flum to see a steam engine Tangmere 34067  carry a tour between Edinburgh and Newcastle, the tour having started in Inverness and hauled to Edinburgh by Tornado 60163.

But, though we were all poised with phones, cameras, videos-on-tripods or whatever other recording device folk use, that is not what we saw. What actually happened was a Class 47 Diesel whizzed past with a string of carriages fleeing behind, before anyone could raise an alert. So that was that...unless you are a Flum.

Since Tornado was still in the area it was decided to pay a visit to its probable location, namely, Craigentinny siding, where there is a footbridge with perfect view. Here it is, still steaming but with a crew examining the wheels. Several minutes' worth of conjecture ensued as we could also see Tangmere in the distance, also in steam, neither engine going anywhere nor planning to do so.

Having taken our fill of photos it was decided to head off, learning later that Tangmere had broken down at Portobello and Tornado was actually being checked and rested before an early start tomorrow for Newcastle and to continue the tour further South.

Photo taken by myself but courtesy of Miss Flum's phone as I stupidly left mine on the dining table. Miss Flum used her camera for her own record.
