Sao Bento railway station
It rained most of the day, sometimes quite heavily, while in the UK a mini-heatwave was occurring!
We were not deterred, however, as we wanted to explore Porto. First we visited the Portuguese Centre of Photography housed in an old prison (scarily only decommissioned in 1970s). There were many interesting old cameras, some dating back to the 19th century, including huge studio cameras, those designed to be used in the field, "spy " cameras and miniature cameras.
We then headed towards the river Douro, taking a brief look at the ornate tiled interior of Sao Bento railway station, which is today's blip.
We crossed the Douro River , by the famous Luis 1 bridge, which has a low level road and high level metro and pedestrian walkway. The bridge links Porto with Vila Nove de Gaia ,the area where the port wine lodges are located. We then spent a happy couple of hours exploring the Taylor's Lodge, where there was a very comprehensive audio guided tour of the museum and finally a port wine tasting.
