Back in hospital
Gavin finally came home last night at about 8.30. Luke drove him home, it has been such perfect timing that Luke got a car only days before Gavin became ill.
Gavin went to bed as he was in so much pain. It took me ages to go through the enormous bag of medication and learn what to give him when. I also read through his hospital notes and was surprised to read he has pneumonia in his lower lungs which apparently is a common postoperative condition due to lying in bed.
Gavin had a very bad night and this morning was in so much pain due to a hugely extended belly. I phoned the ward number I was given, they phoned the surgeon, and he contacted me and told me to take him back to hospital. Due to no parking around there - quite normal for a London hospital - we arranged a taxi to take us to the hospital. Poor Xena was left wondering what was happening, but Fiona stepped in and will be walking her today (after I had just cancelled that arrangement when I knew Gavin would be home and no need to go up to London every day)
At the hospital Gavin was taken for a CT scan to check there was no blockage in the bowel which would have necessitated another surgery. Thankfully no blockage but he had developed postoperative ileus which needs managing. He had been readmitted to hospital. He is dehydrated and his levels are off kilter again so more potassium etc. He had to endure yet another gastric nasal tube being inserted.
This is a photo of the hospital, with the original beautiful Victorian building next to the modern grey block next to it which is part of the hospital. You can see why I cannot park there.
