Grumpy Old Man

Red hot foreigner

Back to the usual weather today after some overnight rain. A lot cooler, scattered sunshine and a light breeze.

Wrote my monthly plant blog first of all, then got on with some gardening. More pot weeding and potting up - I must get on to some real gardening sometime! So many wonderful plants which need to be planted out - I just don’t seem to get round to it! I just sit any pots of flowering plants on the bench opposite the front door!

My Blip today is of a red hot poker which I believe is Kniphofia uvaria, from the Cape Province in South Africa. It’s naturalised in many places up here, growing along the top of the beach. There’s quite a lot of it on the Isle of Seil. Last year while in North Queensferry, just over the Forth Bridge, I spotted a load growing on the foreshore, and as it’s a foreigner I felt quite happy about yanking up a clump!

Quote of the Day: ‘There's no need for red-hot pokers. Hell is—other people!’ - Jean-Paul Sartre.
