Common Redstart #45
Today I headed towards Bolton Abbey, but never quite made it there.
I parked at Barden Bridge and started my walk with the target of finding a common redstart and a pied flycatcher. I'd seen lots of images on Facebook and decided to make the effort to go and see them. We don't have them around where I live, so it was a real treat to see them.
Not only did I see both target species, but I also picked up a Wood Warbler - no photo though, and a sleepy Tawny Owl.
It was really warm, even in the shade of the woodland and 16,000+ steps had me exhausted by the time I got back to the car - then I had more than an hours drive back to Askrigg. Was it worth the drive? Absolutely it was - 3 new birds for the list and a delightful walk in the sunshine.
